Grounded Cafe Bars, a popular UK café chain that has been operating for nearly two decades, appears to have shut all its locations without any prior notice to customers. The restaurants, based across Bristol and Wiltshire, ceased operations suddenly, leaving regulars confused and disappointed.
Chain Operated Since 2008
The chain has been in business since 2008, serving a range of fresh dishes and locally-sourced coffee from Clifton Coffee across all eight of its locations. According to The Sun, Tuesday, June 23 is believed to have been the final day of business for the chain.
Customers Assumed Temporary Closure Due to Heatwave
Regulars initially assumed that the café brand was closing temporarily because of the hot weather. However, none of the locations have reopened since the heatwave ended. The South Bristol Voice reported that all Grounded restaurants are closed.
Furniture at both the Bedminster Parade and Fishponds locations remains in place, but the doors are locked and the lights are off. There are no reports of signage in the windows, and no official messages have appeared online regarding the closures.
List of Affected Locations
The Grounded Cafe Bar locations that appear to have closed include:
- Redfield
- Bedminster
- Horfield
- Brislington
- Corsham
- Keynsham
- Fishponds
- Chippenham
The abrupt closure has left many customers and local communities shocked, as the chain had been a staple in the area for 18 years. No official statement has been released by the company regarding the reasons for the shutdown or any future plans.
