Krispy Kreme Kiosk at Liverpool ONE Demolished After 15 Years
Krispy Kreme Kiosk at Liverpool ONE Demolished

A long-standing kiosk on Paradise Street in Liverpool ONE has been demolished after nearly 15 years to make way for a larger unit. The site, which was home to Krispy Kreme since April 2011, has been cleared as part of redevelopment plans that will see it replaced by a new permanent building.

Redevelopment Plans

A planning application submitted to Liverpool City Council proposes replacing the former kiosk with a larger unit, which is set to become the first Liverpool location for American coffee chain Blank Street Coffee. The new building will be significantly larger than its predecessor, with floorspace increasing from 22.8 square metres to 66.5 square metres, and will feature a redesigned curved appearance.

Liverpool ONE owner Landsec confirmed that the replacement kiosk will be built on broadly the same site but repositioned to fit around street trees, irrigation systems and nearby lamp posts. The new design is intended to make better use of its prominent Paradise Street location. Renovation work is already underway around the former kiosk site following its demolition, and the replacement is planned as a permanent feature rather than the temporary structure it succeeds.

History of the Kiosk

Krispy Kreme originally opened at the kiosk in April 2011, attracting huge crowds with customers queuing overnight in sleeping bags. The structure was initially approved as a temporary five-year installation before permissions were renewed in 2013 and 2018. The kiosk had been a fixture of Liverpool ONE for almost 15 years before its demolition.

Blank Street Coffee Expansion

Blank Street Coffee began as a single coffee cart outside a Brooklyn diner in 2020 before rapidly expanding across the US and UK. It opened its first UK store in London in 2022 and now has locations in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Glasgow. The fast-growing chain is also preparing to open new stores in Bristol and Cambridge as it continues its UK expansion. Known for its mint green branding and viral matcha drinks, Blank Street has not yet confirmed an opening date for its first Liverpool café.
