Lumo is offering travellers 50% off coffee on Monday, July 6, after England's dramatic late-night World Cup clash with Mexico. The rail operator aims to help passengers kick-start their week after many stayed up beyond 4am to watch the match.
Match Recap and Fan Fatigue
The match ended in a resounding 3-2 victory for England, with the Three Lions progressing to the quarter-finals. Jude Bellingham scored a quickfire double in the first half, putting England 2-0 up. Julian Quinones struck just before half-time to keep Mexico in the game. Jarell Quansah was sent off for England, but a Kane penalty and a Raul Jimenez spot kick meant the game ended 3-2.
Many fans in Newcastle city centre watched the game, with pubs and venues opening until 5am for one night only. The late night has left many feeling sleepy this morning.
Lumo's Coffee Promotion
To help combat drowsiness, Lumo is offering half-priced Ringtons coffee on all its services throughout Monday. Connecting the North East to Glasgow, Edinburgh, and London King’s Cross, the promotion gives passengers a chance to wake up before reaching their destination.
Newcastle-based Ringtons, founded in 1907, has a reputation for quality and tradition. It has partnered with Lumo since the rail operator's launch in 2021. Lumo also notes that passengers who feel like a powernap can enjoy generous legroom and recently refreshed seating.
Company Statement
Jen Clare, Service Delivery Director at Lumo, said: 'We know that many of our customers will have had a late night cheering on the Three Lions, so a Ringtons coffee will be the perfect way for them to stir up some energy and take on their Monday.'
'Ringtons have been a brilliant partner since we started our East Coast services in 2021, sharing our commitment to quality and giving our customers the best service possible. Teaming up with the team there to bring a little Monday boost for England fans is the least we can do. Our Customer Experience Ambassadors are looking forward to welcoming them onboard.'
