Target to Open 30 New US Stores, Including 2,000th Milestone Location

Target has announced plans to open more than 30 new stores across the United States this year, including its 2,000th location. The milestone store will be in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, southwest of Raleigh, and is described by the company as representing the future of its stores, with a layout designed for a more relaxed shopping experience.

Seven stores are opening this month, with the first batch on 15 March in Bakersfield and Delano, California; Springfield, Missouri; and Oak Cliff, Texas. Two more in Jersey City and West Orange, New Jersey, will follow on 29 March. The retailer aims to open 300 new stores by 2035, with locations already within 10 miles of most US homes.

New stores are planned for at least 47 communities across 25 states. Florida will see new outlets in Clearwater, Fort Lauderdale, Lake Nona, and Winter Haven; North Carolina in Fayetteville, Mebane, Myrtle Grove, and Selma; and Texas in Dripping Springs, Forney, Fort Worth, Katy, and Little Elm. Some stores are already hiring for spring openings, including in University City, Missouri; Myrtle Grove and Selma, North Carolina; and Buckeye and Casa Grande, Arizona.

Several new Target stores will anchor larger developments, while others will repurpose vacant retail spaces. In Clearwater, Florida, a former Sears building will become a Target, and in Fort Lauderdale, an old theatre and office building will be converted. Adrienne Costanzo, Target’s chief stores officer, said the commitment to new stores is about serving guests and communities, providing teams with tools to create inspiring shopping experiences.
