Arsenal Agree First Summer Transfer: Illan Meslier Deal Set

Arsenal have reportedly secured an agreement to sign former Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier as a free agent this summer, marking their first incoming transfer of the window. The north London club, who are preparing to defend their Premier League title, have moved quickly to bolster their goalkeeping options after Meslier's contract at Leeds expired at the end of June.

Meslier Set for Medical and Backup Role

According to The Athletic, the 26-year-old French goalkeeper is expected to undergo a medical before officially joining the reigning champions. He is anticipated to serve as the third-choice goalkeeper behind David Raya and Kepa Arrizabalaga in Mikel Arteta's squad. Meslier made 215 appearances for Leeds over six years, including 107 in the Premier League, but did not feature in any first-team matches last season, leading to his release.

Setford Loan Move Expected

The report indicates that Meslier's arrival will facilitate the departure of young goalkeeper Tommy Setford on loan. Setford, who joined Arsenal from Ajax in 2024, made only one first-team appearance last season — a brief cameo in an FA Cup win over Wigan Athletic in February. The loan move is intended to provide the 20-year-old with more regular playing time.

Further Transfers on the Horizon

Arsenal remain active in the transfer market, with strong links to Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers and Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola. Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi has also been mentioned as a potential target. Regarding outgoings, reports over the weekend suggested that Arsenal had agreed a €20 million (£17.1 million) deal with Besiktas for Leandro Trossard, who is entering the final year of his contract.
