A semi-truck transporting approximately 11,000 pounds of Kit Kat bars overturned in Brandon, Mississippi, on Monday afternoon, scattering thousands of chocolate bars across the road. The accident occurred near the on-ramp to Highway 80, which was temporarily closed, but authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported.
Details of the Incident
The truck's trailer disconnected from the cab while the vehicle was traveling east on Interstate 20. The trailer then toppled onto the westbound on-ramp, causing the cargo of Kit Kat bars to spill across the roadway. Emergency crews responded to the scene to manage the cleanup and traffic control. The cause of the detachment is under investigation.
Social Media Reaction
Kit Kat acknowledged the incident on social media, playfully referencing their iconic slogan, 'Give me a break.' The company also noted a previous mishap, adding a lighthearted tone to the unfortunate event. This is the second notable incident involving Kit Kat ground transportation this year. In March, 12 tons of chocolate bars were stolen while en route between Poland and Italy, highlighting logistical challenges in the confectionery supply chain.
Local authorities reminded drivers to secure loads properly and remain vigilant on highways to prevent similar accidents. The cleanup operation was completed later that evening, and Highway 80 was fully reopened. Despite the loss of product, no environmental hazards were reported as the chocolate bars were contained within the immediate area.
