Lidl is expanding its Lidl & Go self-scanning trial to 37 more stores across the UK, allowing customers to scan products as they shop using the Lidl Plus app on their smartphones. The feature enables shoppers to complete their purchase at the checkout with items already scanned, saving time.
Phased Rollout Across Scotland and Southern England
The phased rollout will make the feature available throughout July in stores across Scotland, the South East, and the wider South of England. This follows a successful trial at seven stores: Airdrie, Cardiff, Epsom, Glenrothes, Kingston, Guilford, and Eastleigh.
Louise Weise, Chief Customer Officer at Lidl GB, said: “The early response from the initial phase of Lidl & Go has been really encouraging. Customers are telling us they value the control and visibility it gives them over their spend, and the flexibility to shop at their own pace. This next wave of stores brings the feature to many more customers, and we’ll continue to take on board feedback to evolve the offering as we go.”

Lidl Revamps Loyalty Scheme with Points System
The expansion comes after Lidl announced a major shake-up of its loyalty scheme, with shoppers now earning points as they spend. Lidl Plus users earn one point for every £1 spent in store, which can be converted into coupons for free products or money off a shop. Points are valid for two years and replace rewards for reaching monthly spending thresholds.
Lidl says the new system gives shoppers more flexibility, but some customers have complained that they will need to spend more to get some rewards. A Lidl spokesperson told The Grocer that users often earn more than one point per £1 spent due to Rewards of the Week, double points, triple points, or free points on selected products.
