So already you can see how these low-cost airlines are making their money. It's clever, and well, it sucked me in, that's for sure, because I paid the extra for the seat." Despite the initial sticker shock over seat fees, Nathan was highly impressed with his journey, starting at London Southend Airport, which he praised as the country's number one airport. He highlighted the efficiency of the check-in and security processes, noting, "Southend airport has got the new security system whereby nothing has to come out of your bag. That just streamlines the process even more. So, the sort of thing where liquids into separate bags and stuff like that being shot out is that really a thing of the past." He added that from entering the airport to reaching the waiting area, it took no longer than five minutes, calling it "absolutely incredible."
Tips to Avoid Extra Fees
Nathan offered a practical tip to avoid Southend Airport's £8 drop-off fee: "Please, I cannot stress this enough. Get dropped off at the McDonald's because that will save you £8." Once on board, his experience improved further when he found his chosen seat in an empty row, a rare luxury on budget flights. He humorously noted, "You can pay four or five hundred pounds for European business class just to get one free seat next to you. So you could argue that it could be actually cheaper just to book the seat next to you for someone else and just put them down as a no-show," though he quickly clarified, "I'm not actually advising that!"

Nathan acknowledged that during peak holiday seasons, the same trip might be less relaxed, and easyJet's dynamic pricing could lead to much higher fares. However, he strongly recommended Southend Airport as a superior alternative to busier hubs like Stansted and Luton, stating, "The whole Southend Airport experience was absolutely incredible.
