Blackpool Pleasure Beach Tests New £9 Million Aviktas Ride, UK's Tallest Gyro Swing
Blackpool's £9M Aviktas Ride Testing Begins, Tallest UK Gyro Swing

Testing has commenced on Aviktas, a new £8.72 million ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, which is poised to become the United Kingdom's tallest gyro swing attraction. Engineers have initiated controlled testing of the 40-seater pendulum ride, activating its initial rotation and swing mechanisms as part of the development process.

Ride Specifications and Features

Once construction is fully completed, Aviktas will reach an impressive height of 138 feet at its full swing, offering thrill-seekers a breathtaking experience. The ride is designed to arc 120 degrees over the iconic Blackpool coastline, providing panoramic views of the seafront during its operation.

Upcoming Testing and Events

Further testing phases, including the pendulum's first swing at full height, are scheduled to occur over the coming weeks. In anticipation of the official launch, tickets are now available for a VIP Preview Event, allowing guests to be among the first to experience Aviktas before it opens to the general public.

Amanda Thompson, CEO of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, expressed her excitement, stating: "Seeing Aviktas swing for the first time was a truly special moment for everyone involved in this project. Each milestone brings us closer to that first ride, and we can't wait to share this experience with our guests in the spring."

Opening Details and Park Anniversary

An exact opening date for Aviktas is expected to be announced during the spring season. This new attraction coincides with the theme park's 130th anniversary year, with Blackpool Pleasure Beach set to open for the season on March 7, 2026.

Other UK Attractions in Development

Aviktas is not the only major attraction slated to debut in the UK this year. In County Durham, a new live storytelling park is planned to open in summer 2026. This park will feature immersive performances, bird shows, and live action battles on horseback, offering a unique daytime historical theme park experience.

Families may already be familiar with Kynren in Bishop Auckland, where dramatic performances depict 2,000 years of historical events, typically held at sunset. The charity behind these shows, 11Arches, is expanding the site to create Kynren – The Storied Lands, aiming to utilize the location more extensively during daylight hours for enhanced visitor engagement.
