After initially staying in hostels, Olivia settled into a flatshare with a Spanish local, paying a mere £255 per month in rent. This figure stands in stark contrast to the £1,000 she was previously spending on accommodation in the UK capital, representing a substantial financial saving.
In an interview with Luxury Travel Daily, Olivia elaborated on her newfound financial freedom. 'I don't feel like I'm breaking the bank anymore if I go out for a breakfast or drinks,' she explained. 'A beer here is usually less than €3, which is about £2.55, and a coffee is around €1.50, or £1.28.'
Minimal Expenses and Accessible Leisure
Her cost-effective lifestyle is further supported by the island's amenities. Public transportation is free for residents in Menorca, allowing Olivia to travel extensively by bus or on foot at no extra cost. Additionally, most of her hobbies are described as 'inexpensive.' She spends her leisure time exploring the island's stunning beaches and enjoying hikes, activities that require little to no financial outlay.

However, the move has necessitated some small but notable adaptations. Olivia has had to alter her method of making a traditional British cup of tea, as she has yet to encounter an apartment equipped with a kettle. 'I now make my tea in the microwave or in a saucepan!' she revealed.

While Spain has historically been a favoured destination for British expatriates, this data suggests that many are now potentially looking towards alternative countries for their overseas moves, marking a notable change in migration patterns.
