Major Cardiff Road Closures This Weekend Due to Multiple Events
Cardiff Road Closures This Weekend for Events

Cardiff will experience significant road closures this weekend as several major events coincide, drawing thousands of music fans, comedy enthusiasts, and foodies to the city. On Saturday, July 4, American rapper Pitbull headlines Blackweir Live, while Bowling for Soup and Frank Turner perform at Cardiff Castle. Additionally, the annual Cardiff Bay food and drink festival runs from Friday, July 3, to Sunday, July 5, and comedian James Acaster performs three shows at the Wales Millennium Centre.

Pitbull at Blackweir Live: Road Closures and Parking

Pitbull, the fourth Blackweir Live headliner in 2026 following The Cure, Teddy Swims, and Lewis Capaldi, will perform on Saturday. The following roads will be closed from 4pm to midnight:

  • Duke Street and Kingsway (entirely)
  • Castle Street from the junction with Westgate Street
  • North Road from the junction with Colum Road down to Boulevard De Nantes; and Boulevard De Nantes to the junction with Park Place (buses granted access via Park Place/Boulevard De Nantes onto The Friary to reach Greyfriars Road)
  • Cowbridge Road East from Cathedral Road through to the junction with Westgate Street (access to Westgate Street permitted)

Access to part of the Civic Centre will be controlled from 7am, affecting King Edward VII Avenue, Museum Avenue, City Hall Road, College Road, and Gorsedd Gardens Road. The right-hand turn from Colum Road into Corbett Road will be suspended during closure times to manage access for residents and businesses.

No parking is available at Blackweir Live or Cardiff Castle. Public car parks include the Civic Centre (exit Junction 32 M4, head south on A470) and Sophia Gardens (exit Junction 32 M4). City centre car parks such as St David's Shopping Centre, John Lewis, Capitol Shopping Centre, and NCP (Adam Street, Dumfries Place, Greyfriars Road) are also accessible.

Bowling for Soup and Frank Turner at Cardiff Castle

American rock band Bowling for Soup and folk-punk artist Frank Turner with The Sleeping Souls will perform together for the first time at Cardiff Castle on Saturday. Castle Street will close half an hour before the event ends and reopen when crowds disperse. Parking options are the same as for Blackweir Live, with the Civic Centre and Sophia Gardens available.

Cardiff Bay Food and Drink Festival and James Acaster

The annual food and drink festival takes place in Cardiff Bay from Friday to Sunday, alongside James Acaster's three shows at the Wales Millennium Centre. No road closures are in place, but organisers anticipate congestion due to the event's popularity and recommend alternative transport if possible.

Paid parking locations include Havannah Street, the Q-Park multi-storey, and Mermaid Quay multi-storey, all within a 10-minute walk of the Wales Millennium Centre and Roald Dahl Plass. Visit Cardiff notes that parking capacity will be limited in Cardiff Bay while the new multi-storey car park is being built at The Red Dragon Centre, so public transport is advised.
