Severe delays hit the M4 on Sunday afternoon after two serious collisions on the Prince of Wales Bridge. The eastbound carriageway was reduced to one lane after a car struck the central reservation, causing miles of queues and delays of up to 50 minutes.
Traffic Wales confirmed that two of three lanes were closed eastbound following the incident. A second accident on the same stretch blocked the same lanes, compounding the disruption. Inrix reported four miles of congestion on approach.
The westbound direction also saw slow traffic, with one lane closed to allow repairs to the central reservation. All lanes have since reopened, but residual delays of around 25 minutes remain for eastbound traffic, according to the AA.
Drivers are advised to expect continued congestion as barrier repairs are ongoing. Lane three on both carriageways remains closed for maintenance.
