Royal Mail Warns of Weekend Delays Across 20 UK Postcodes
Royal Mail Delays Hit 20 UK Postcodes This Weekend

Royal Mail has issued a fresh warning to residents across 20 UK postcodes, alerting them to expect delays in mail and parcel deliveries this weekend. The delivery firm, which typically aims to provide service six days a week, is facing temporary setbacks in specific areas that will impact timely receipt of items.

Scope of the Weekend Disruptions

The delays are concentrated in 10 local delivery offices, affecting postcodes in regions including Scotland, Yorkshire, Oxfordshire, and Northumberland. This follows earlier disruptions earlier in the week that impacted 44 postcodes across 18 offices, highlighting ongoing challenges in the postal network.

Reasons Behind the Service Issues

Royal Mail has attributed the delays to local factors such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing shortages, and other operational challenges at certain offices. In a statement, the company explained: "We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues."

The firm has implemented measures to mitigate the impact, including rotating deliveries to minimize delays for individual customers and providing targeted support to affected offices. Royal Mail added: "We're sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding."

Previous Network Problems

Earlier this week, Royal Mail's road network experienced issues when a vehicle was late departing the Midlands Parcel Hub for destinations including Preston and Glasgow Mail Centres. This caused delays in postcode areas such as BB, FY, LA, PR, G, KA, ML, and PA. While the air network operated on schedule, these road disruptions contributed to the broader service challenges.

Affected Postcodes This Weekend

The following delivery offices and their corresponding postcodes are experiencing delays:

  • Aldershot DO (GU11, GU12)
  • Ashington DO (NE22, NE62, NE63, NE64)
  • Beverley DO (HU11, HU17, HU18)
  • Bridge Of Weir DO (PA11, PA13)
  • Carterton DO (OX18)
  • Daventry DO (NN11)
  • Eastwood DO (NG16)

Service Updates and Customer Options

Royal Mail regularly updates its service status to keep customers informed about delays. For this weekend, delivery and collection services are expected to proceed on Saturday, 28 February, with parcel deliveries scheduled for Sunday, 1 March. Customers affected by the delays may be able to collect items at most Customer Service Points as an alternative.

The company emphasizes its commitment to restoring service to the high standard customers normally expect, but advises those in the listed postcodes to anticipate possible disruptions to their mail and parcel deliveries over the coming days.
