Adam Olverson, the man accused of shooting his father dead at a farm in Lancashire, has been pictured for the first time as he appeared in court. The 31-year-old is charged with manslaughter, possession of a firearm without a licence, and possession of ammunition without a licence following the death of 75-year-old Thomas Olverson.
Incident at Marsh Hey Farm
Emergency services were called to Marsh Hey Farm on Pinfold Lane in Scarisbrick shortly before 5pm on July 25, 2024, after reports of gunshots. Officers found Thomas Olverson at the scene, and he was pronounced dead. A police investigation was launched, with officers remaining at the farm in the days following the shooting.
A 29-year-old man was initially arrested and bailed while enquiries continued. On Monday, June 29, 2026, Olverson, now 31, of Pinfold Lane, Scarisbrick, was re-arrested and charged with manslaughter and firearms offences.
Court Appearance
On July 1, 2026, Olverson appeared at Preston Magistrates' Court, where he sat in the dock dressed in a blue shirt, black canvas jacket, and black jeans. He spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth, address, and that he understood his unconditional bail. Magistrate Carrie Ryan-Palmer confirmed that bail would continue. Defence solicitor Gwyn Lewis told the court the case had been going on a 'long time'.
No family members attended the brief hearing, and no plea was entered. Olverson was ordered to appear again on July 29, 2026, at Preston Crown Court for a trial and preparation hearing, where he will be required to enter a plea. The magistrate told him: 'Mr Olverson, you are being sent to trial at Preston Crown Court for the offences that are already mentioned.'
