A two-month-old baby is receiving hospital treatment following an alleged assault in Plymouth on New Year's Day. Police were called to the scene in the early hours, leading to the arrest of an 18-year-old man.
Police Respond to Disturbance in Prince Rock
Devon and Cornwall Police were called to an apartment in the Prince Rock area of Plymouth shortly after midnight on 1 January. Officers attended the area of Mainstone Avenue and Elliot Road following reports of a disturbance and an altercation involving a group of people.
Residents had reportedly been alerted by shouting, which prompted the police call. Upon arrival, officers located the infant with injuries.
Infant Taken to Specialist Hospital
The injured baby was swiftly transported to Bristol Children's Hospital for specialist care. A police spokesperson confirmed that the child's injuries were not being treated as life-threatening or life-changing.
The infant remains in hospital as medical professionals continue to provide treatment.
Arrest and Ongoing Investigation
As part of their investigation, police arrested an 18-year-old man from Plymouth on suspicion of assault. He was taken to Charles Cross police station for questioning.
The suspect has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries. Detectives are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
