Man Leaves Wife for Biological Mother in Shocking Genetic Attraction Case
In a story that has stunned families across the nation, a married man who was adopted at birth has left his wife to pursue a sexual relationship with his biological mother. The case involves Ben Ford and Kim West, whose reunion after more than three decades apart crossed boundaries that most would consider unthinkable.
The Adoption and Unexpected Reunion
Kim West, now in her fifties, gave birth to her son Ben Ford when she was just a 19-year-old student living in California. Unable to care for the newborn infant, she made the difficult decision to put him up for adoption merely a week after his birth before returning to the United Kingdom. Over thirty years passed without any contact whatsoever between the mother and son.
However, in 2013, Ben Ford, who was married and residing in Colorado at the time, decided to search for his biological parents. His efforts proved successful when he managed to locate Kim West and wrote her a heartfelt letter. What began as an exchange of letters and phone calls quickly escalated in intensity.
From Reunion to Romantic Relationship
By 2014, the mother and son arranged to meet face-to-face for the first time since Ben's adoption. This meeting would irrevocably change both of their lives. Almost immediately, Kim and Ben crossed a profound boundary, becoming sexually involved shortly after their initial in-person encounter.
Ben later confessed that the sexual encounters were so "mind-blowing" that he eventually told his then-wife, Victoria, that he could no longer be intimate with her unless he imagined she was his mother. Kim West described feeling a growing sense of competition and jealousy towards Victoria, stating that she could not warm to her despite Victoria's welcoming nature.
"She would constantly call him when we were together," Kim recalled. "Eventually, he admitted she was giving him grief about spending time with me. 'She calls you mummy girlfriend,' he said."
Leaving Marriage and Facing Legal Consequences
Within days of the affair starting, Ben came clean about everything to his wife. Shortly afterwards, he made the decision to leave his marriage entirely and relocated to live with Kim in Michigan. When their unconventional relationship became public knowledge, it sparked widespread fury and condemnation.
This reaction was particularly intense because, under Michigan state law, consensual incest between adults constitutes a serious criminal offence. If formally charged, the couple could have faced sentences of up to 15 years in prison and would have been required to register as sex offenders for the remainder of their lives. As public scrutiny intensified, Kim and Ben chose to withdraw from the public eye.
Controversial Justification and Defiance
Despite the fierce criticism and potential legal ramifications, the pair have maintained that their relationship does not technically constitute incest. They argue it represents a phenomenon termed "Genetic Sexual Attraction" (GSA), a disputed psychological concept which proposes that relatives meeting as adults for the first time may experience intense sexual attraction due to the absence of bonding during infancy.
Kim West has dismissed the incest characterisation entirely, insisting that she and Ben were "meant to be together." Ben has stated that he never viewed Kim as a mother figure, solely as a sexual partner. This justification has faced widespread condemnation from medical and psychological experts, who challenge the validity of the GSA theory.
Nevertheless, the couple remained defiant in their stance, even declaring at one point their desire to marry and start a family together, further fuelling the public and legal controversy surrounding their extraordinary case.
