A man's protruding belly button became the unexpected star of President Donald Trump's Oval Office briefing on Thursday, as social media users focused on the unusual sight rather than the policy announcements.
Unexpected Distraction
During a Q&A session following an announcement with EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin about easing Biden-era regulations on greenhouse gas emissions from cooling equipment, an unidentified man stood behind Trump. His noticeable belly button, bulging through his shirt, quickly captured the internet's attention.
Trump also addressed various topics, including whether the Republican Senate majority would support his demand for $1 billion to fund parts of the White House ballroom. However, these issues were eclipsed by the viral belly button.
Social Media Reactions
Users on X (formerly Twitter) shared screenshots and jokes. One exclaimed, "The only thing more outrageous than Trump here is the bulging belly button." Another pleaded, "Can someone please move Bellybutton Man out of frame." Jokes included, "You’re gonna put out an eye with that bellybutton," and, "Damn, check out the outtie bellybutton just to the right of Dips***’s mouth. That’s classic."
One user humorously speculated, "The state of that bellybutton and how low the baby is sitting in there...I’m going to say it’s a boy." Another quipped, "Will this guy live down his bellybutton picture? Laughter is the best medicine."
Trump's Comments
During the meeting, Trump denied losing grip on the Republican Senate majority, as senators prepared to advance a border security funding bill excluding his ballroom demand. He said, "I don’t need money for the ballroom," calling the idea "the biggest misreporting that I’ve ever seen." He added, "It’s being done in conjunction with the military, and with the very much in conjunction with the military and Secret Service. We’re on time, on budget. It’s going beautifully. Have all the money I need."
