Children with Special Needs Found Alone in Filthy Michigan Home for Days

Two young children with special needs were discovered abandoned in a squalid Michigan home, left alone for multiple days in conditions police described as horrific. The children were found covered in faeces, with one attempting to eat raw meat due to a lack of edible food in the residence.

Neighbour's Concern Leads to Discovery

The distressing situation came to light when a concerned neighbour contacted authorities to request a welfare check. Officers from the Flint Township Police Department responded and were met with a scene of utter neglect. Inside the home, they encountered layers of rubbish covering the floors, overturned furniture, and a running tap left unattended.

One child was found curled into a ball on the floor of an empty bedroom, while the other was attempting to consume raw meat. Police confirmed that both children had been left alone by their mother, Krystal Farmer, for an extended period described as "for days."

Police Describe 'Walking into Abandonment Itself'

In a Facebook post, the Flint Township Police Department stated, "While her children endured filth, hunger and fear, she prioritized herself over their safety, abandoning them to survive on their own." One responding officer characterised the experience as "walking into abandonment itself," underscoring the severity of the neglect.

Neighbours reported that something had felt amiss for months. Christy Ogles-Campbell told reporters, "I think that this has gone on at least since September. I never ever could have imagined that that was actually what was going on in that house." She added a plea for the community: "Pray for these little boys. Pray for them. I really hope that those little boys can stay together, because truly that is all that they have is each other."

Mother Faces Multiple Felony Charges

Krystal Farmer, 35, has been charged with several felonies, including child abandonment, child abuse, and lying to an officer during a violent crime investigation. Authorities have confirmed that the children are now safe and receiving appropriate care.

Police emphasised that this type of call leaves a lasting impact on first responders, highlighting the profound neglect involved. The investigation continues as authorities work to ensure the children's wellbeing and pursue justice in this deeply troubling case of parental abandonment and neglect.
