An American sports television presenter and her husband have been found dead in their family home in a suspected case of murder-suicide, police have confirmed.
Tragic Discovery at Family Home
Christina Chambers, a popular sports reporter, and her husband, Johnny Rimes, were discovered with fatal gunshot wounds by a family member on Tuesday morning. The heartbreaking discovery was made at their residence in Hoover, Alabama, at approximately 9am local time.
The couple, who married in 2021 and share a three-year-old son, were pronounced dead at the scene by Hoover Fire-Medics. In an initial statement, the Hoover Police Department said: "Although the investigation is in its early stages, it appears these deaths are the result of a murder/suicide, and there is no threat to the public related to this case."
Authorities confirmed the couple's young son was present in the home but was found physically unharmed following the tragedy.
Career and Tributes to a Beloved Journalist
Christina Chambers was a well-known figure in Alabama sports broadcasting. She joined the local Fox News affiliate, WBRC, in November 2015 and spent nearly a decade with the station. Her reporting primarily focused on college and high school football across Alabama and Georgia.
Following her marriage to Johnny Rimes, a financial analyst at the American Cast Iron Pipe Company for almost 14 years, Chambers transitioned to a role as an educator at a local high school. There, she advised students on television and film production while continuing occasional freelance reporting.
Her former employer, WBRC, paid a moving tribute to her. "We are heartbroken to confirm the death of former WBRC reporter Christina Chambers," the station told ABC 33/40. "Christina was a valued member of our newsroom and a beloved colleague whose warmth, humour, and passion for sports left a lasting impact on everyone who worked with her."
The statement highlighted her pride in her community ties, particularly with the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and local high school sports. Colleagues also shared personal memories during a news bulletin, with one former co-worker stating poignantly: "Knowing Christina was knowing joy."
Ongoing Investigation and Community Shock
The Hoover Police Department's investigation into the precise circumstances surrounding the deaths remains active. While early indications point to a murder-suicide, officials are continuing their work to fully understand the events that led to this domestic tragedy.
The news has sent shockwaves through the local community and media circles in Alabama, where Chambers was a familiar and respected face. The couple's focus on family and their professional contributions have made the loss profoundly felt by friends, colleagues, and viewers alike.
