Irish Crime Boss Daniel Kinahan Arrested in Dubai as Police Vow to Target Inner Circle

Detectives who apprehended the infamous Irish crime lord Daniel Kinahan on Wednesday have issued a stark warning to the remaining leaders of his criminal organisation: 'We're not done yet.' Kinahan, who had been pursued by authorities for years, was arrested in Dubai based on a warrant issued by an Irish court for directing an organised crime gang.

As a hunt commences for millions of pounds in cartel funds, law enforcement has pledged to pursue Kinahan's brother, Christopher Jnr, and his father, Christy. A senior official informed The Irish Sun: 'Different layers of the Kinahan organisation have all been dismantled over the past ten years. The hit teams have been convicted, the drug distribution networks have been dismantled, money laundering structures crushed, key figures are in prison, and now the overall leader has been arrested.'

'But there are still people out there who are part of Daniel Kinahan's inner circle. The ultimate objective is to completely dismantle a criminal organisation that caused so much misery in Ireland.'

Key Associates Under Investigation

Dubai-based cartel associate Ian Dixon, identified by the United States for arranging money for Kinahan, remains under investigation alongside Bernard Clancy, another key lieutenant. Also on the police's radar are the gang's 'principal representative' Ross Browning and key money man Johnny 'Johnny Cash' Morrissey, who is being investigated in Costa del Sol, Spain.

The Kinahan family was sanctioned by the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control in 2022, which placed $5 million bounties on their heads.

Arrest Operation and Surveillance Details

Kinahan, 48, and his father, Christy Kinahan Sr, have been living in Dubai since 2016, following the Regency Hotel attack. They were spotted at a mixed martial arts event in Dubai last June, seemingly unaffected by their wanted status.

Senior sources reveal that Kinahan was in 'total shock' when arrested, having invested 'big money' into UAE contacts and believing he would be tipped off. A source stated: 'Because they had so much money splashed around the place, they thought they were important and would be tipped off. But that is totally not true, so they were blindsided.'

Kinahan was under surveillance for two days prior to his arrest, with a local shopping mall and Indian restaurant near the Burj Khalifa serving as key hubs. This operation marked the first use of a fresh extradition treaty between Ireland and the UAE.

One senior official described it as a 'major, major coup,' noting that warrants were obtained in the High Court after a decision to charge Kinahan with serious organised crime offences. He could now face life imprisonment.

Broader Criminal Empire and Connections

The Kinahan cartel, valued at around €1 billion, allegedly smuggled deadly narcotics, including cocaine, to Europe. Their reach extends to a vast property empire in Dubai and collaborations with Iranian-backed terrorists Hezbollah for money laundering and weapons.

Since moving to Dubai with his wife, Caoimhe Robinson, Kinahan established a multi-million-pound property portfolio and set up companies in food, clothing, and textiles. He also earned over $4 million as a boxing promoter, working as a dealmaker for Tyson Fury.

Evidence and Legal Proceedings

Irish police believe they can link Kinahan to encrypted messages connecting him to murders and plots against rivals in the conflict with the Hutch Gang. This includes messages from Estonian hitman Imre Arakas, known as The Butcher, who attempted to kill Hutch gangster James Gately in 2017.

An arresting officer seized Arakas's Blackberry phone and photographed incriminating messages before they disappeared. Police allege Kinahan communicated with Arakas under the names 'Bon' and 'Bon new.'

Former Det Sgt Greg Sheehan hailed Kinahan's arrest as a 'fantastic result,' expressing hope it brings comfort to victims and highlighting the destruction caused by the drugs his organisation trafficked across Europe.
