Drug Dealer Jailed for Elaborate Home Alone-Style Booby Traps and Flamethrower Use

A drug dealer, Ian Claughton, has been sentenced to seven years in prison after rigging his house with Home Alone-style booby traps, including weapons, explosives, and tripwires, to protect his cannabis operation. The elaborate defences were discovered across three properties connected to Claughton and his ex-wife, Lesley Claughton, during a police operation in May 2024.

Bodycam Footage Reveals Flamethrower Incident

Bodycam footage released by the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit shows officers entering one of the properties and capturing Claughton using a homemade flamethrower in his back garden. The footage highlights the extreme measures taken by Claughton to safeguard his illegal activities, with the flamethrower being a central element of his defensive setup.

Police Operation and Sentencing Details

The police operation involved a three-day search and the establishment of a 100-metre cordon around the properties to ensure public safety. Ian Claughton admitted to weapon and drug charges, leading to his seven-year jail sentence. Lesley Claughton received a 21-month suspended prison sentence for her involvement in the case.
