A body has been recovered from a major dam in southern New South Wales, bringing a tragic end to a four-day search for a missing swimmer over the Christmas period.
Christmas Day Disappearance Sparks Major Search
Emergency services were called to the Hume Dam near Table Top last Tuesday, following reports that a swimmer had vanished. Upon arrival, police located two children who were unharmed but alone in a boat.
A police spokesperson confirmed that officers from the Murray River Police District were informed a 64-year-old man had entered the water from the boat but failed to resurface. This prompted an immediate and extensive search operation.
Multi-Agency Effort Over the Holiday Period
The disappearance triggered a large-scale response involving numerous agencies. Police were joined by the marine command and volunteers from several rescue organisations, including the RFS, SES, and VRA Rescue NSW.
Despite the holiday, crews persevered for four days, meticulously scouring the vast dam. The search concluded on Saturday morning when a body was finally located in the water.
Formal Identification Pending
While the body has not yet been formally identified, authorities believe it to be that of the missing 64-year-old swimmer. A report is now being prepared for the coroner as the investigation continues.
