Body Found in Search for Missing North Tyneside Cyclist

Northumbria Police have confirmed that a body has been found in the search for a missing 67-year-old cyclist from North Tyneside, who was last seen in Northumberland over the weekend. The man, identified only as David, was described by officers as a keen cyclist.

Discovery in Usway Burn Area

In the early hours of Tuesday, a body was discovered in the Usway Burn area on the edge of Kidland Forest. While formal identification has yet to take place, police believe it is David and have informed his next of kin.

Officers stated: "Tragically, a body was discovered in the Usway Burn area on the edge of Kidland Forrest in the early hours of today (Tuesday). While formal identification is yet to take place, it is believed to be David and his next of kin have been informed. We are supporting them at this difficult time. We do not believe there to be any third-party involvement and a report will now be prepared for the coroner."

Extensive Search Efforts

David was last seen in the Alwinton area of Northumberland at around 5:40pm on Saturday. Following his disappearance, police launched extensive inquiries and appealed to the public for help in locating him. The force expressed gratitude for the assistance received.

"Our thoughts are with David’s family at this tragic time. This is not the outcome we wanted to share and we will continue to support his loved ones in any way that we can. We would like to thank everyone who helped in the search for David, and those who shared our appeal and contacted us with information," the force added.

No Third-Party Involvement Suspected

Police have indicated that they do not suspect any third-party involvement in David's death. A report will now be prepared for the coroner. The discovery brings a tragic end to the search for the missing cyclist, who was last seen in the remote Alwinton area.
