Businessman Denies Sex Assault on BA Flight

A businessman from Greater Manchester has pleaded not guilty to charges of sexually assaulting a flight attendant and physically attacking other cabin crew members following an alleged vodka binge on a British Airways flight from Dubai.

Heathrow Arrest After Eight-Hour Flight

Murad Sabir, aged 42 and residing in Rochdale, was arrested directly on the tarmac at London Heathrow Airport upon the arrival of the eight-hour British Airways service on November 5 last year. The arrest followed reports of disruptive and aggressive behaviour during the flight.

Court Proceedings and Charges

At Isleworth Crown Court today, Sabir formally denied one count of sexual assault and two separate counts of assault by beating. However, he did admit to a single charge of entering an aircraft while drunk. The court has scheduled his trial for 7 August 2028, meaning he must now wait approximately two and a half years for the case to be heard.

Allegations of In-Flight Misconduct

Prosecutor Rene de Silva outlined the allegations to the court, stating that Sabir was drinking vodka throughout the journey and became severely intoxicated. The prosecution claims this intoxication fuelled a series of offences.

The sexual assault charge relates to an alleged incident where Sabir is accused of touching the breast of a flight attendant over her clothing and putting his arm around her neck. Furthermore, it is alleged he grabbed another cabin crew member by the back of the head. A third crew member reported being hugged by the defendant in an unwelcome manner.

Passenger Intervention and Fear

The court heard that concerned passengers attempted to intervene during the disturbances. One passenger reportedly felt threatened, expressing a belief that Sabir was going to punch him. This highlights the level of alarm and disruption caused aboard the aircraft.

Sabir has been released on unconditional bail pending his trial in 2028. The case underscores serious concerns about passenger conduct and safety protocols on commercial flights.
