In a dramatic and heart-stopping rescue, an 83-year-old man was saved from a freezing, fast-flowing river in Cheshire thanks to the swift actions of emergency services and their cutting-edge technology.
A Desperate Search in the Dark
Police were called to the River Bollin in the Wilmslow area at approximately 5:45 pm on Tuesday, 19th March, after reports that an elderly man had fallen into the water. The man, who has not been named, was clinging to branches in the middle of the icy river, unable to move or pull himself to safety.
With daylight fading and the temperature dropping, the situation was critical. The Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, North West Ambulance Service, and the National Police Air Service helicopter were all scrambled to the scene. However, it was a piece of technology from the Cheshire Police drone unit that proved to be the game-changer.

The police drone, equipped with a thermal imaging camera, was deployed over the treacherous water.
