The final day of NRL Magic Round has been marred by a violent altercation between two fans in the stands at Suncorp Stadium. The incident occurred during the Brisbane Broncos versus New Zealand Warriors match on Sunday afternoon.
Video Captures the Fight
A video posted by the Clarkey's Rugby League Column social media account shows a Broncos supporter and a Warriors fan exchanging multiple punches. The footage has since attracted 1.6 million views, 30,000 likes, and 800 comments. Onlookers, including Dane Clarke, the account's owner, can be seen attempting to break up the fight. Clarke wrote, 'Silly boys having a biffo at Magic Round. Had to step in & break that up.'
Fan Reactions
The viral video has drawn criticism from fans who condemned the brawl for tarnishing the event. One fan commented, 'The whole beauty of magic round is that there's 50k drunk footy fans and everyone loving life noone is fighting, lowkey disappointing to see.' Another said, 'Should have just had them kicked out.' A third wrote, 'Nothing screams family event like fighting, alcohol and gambling.'
Police Investigation
Queensland Police have confirmed they are aware of the incident and are in the process of confirming details. This is not the first time Magic Round has been disrupted by fan violence. In 2022, NRL CEO Andrew Abdo threatened to ban supporters for life after a similar brawl resulted in multiple punches, a coward punch, and a spectator tumbling backwards down three rows of seats.
