A 25-year-old man was airlifted to hospital after being set on fire in a violent attack at an apartment block in Warrawong, south of Sydney, on Monday evening.

Emergency services were called to a unit on Todd Street at around 9pm and forced their way in, finding the man with severe burns to his face, chest, neck and arms. Police said he had been doused in a liquid before being set alight, with 50 per cent of his body burned.

A medical helicopter crew treated the man at the scene before he was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition. He is now in a serious but stable condition.
