A 14-year-old girl was attacked by a stranger while walking in her quiet Michigan neighborhood, police said. The incident occurred on May 12 on Rondo Street SE in Kentwood, about two and a half hours west of Detroit.
Surveillance footage captures attack
Surveillance footage released by the Kentwood Police Department shows John Moore, 29, rushing from his black car and swinging at the girl. The video cuts off before contact, and the victim's identity is protected by blurring. Police say Moore physically assaulted the teen and tried to restrain her. The girl fought back, inflicting minor injuries, and Moore fled.
Second victim attacked earlier
Moore is also accused of attacking a 66-year-old woman about 90 minutes earlier. She was working in her yard on Poinsettia Avenue SE when Moore stopped and made unwanted advances before physically assaulting her, according to police.
Arrest and charges
Detectives identified Moore through witness interviews and surveillance footage. He was arrested within 24 hours and taken to the Kent County Correctional Facility in Grand Rapids. Moore faces charges of assault and battery and unlawful imprisonment. He also has two probation violation charges, with a total bond of $140,000.
Moore was sentenced to probation last summer for recording upskirt videos in September 2023 and grabbing women at Meijer stores. In one incident, a woman spotted him looking down at her from a toilet stall. He also recorded inappropriate video in a store common area. Last year, he told female customers they had a spider on their back and grabbed their behinds, reported by three women.
Moore was sentenced to time served and three years of probation last August, and required to register as a sex offender. His then-public defender described him as kind and gentle, attributing his actions to substance abuse issues. The Daily Mail contacted Kentwood Police for comment. It is unclear if Moore has legal representation for the new charges.
