New CCTV in Southampton Common Murder Probe After Man Found Dead

Hampshire Police have released new CCTV footage as part of a murder investigation into the death of 45-year-old Ernest Konrad Deputat, whose body was discovered on Southampton Common. Detectives are urgently seeking to identify a woman seen walking a dog on the common, believing she may hold crucial information.

Body Found Near Fire

Mr Deputat's remains were found on October 8 near Ornamental Lake on Southampton Common. Officers noted signs of a significant fire at the scene and immediately launched a murder probe. Two men arrested in connection with the investigation have been released on bail.

Appeal for Dog Walker

The woman in the CCTV was seen walking a dog on the morning of Saturday, September 6. Police believe she may have already been spoken to but need to speak to her again due to new information. Hampshire Police stated: "We believe the woman in this image, who was seen walking a dog on Southampton Common on the morning of Saturday 6 September, might be able to help us. We would urge her, or anyone who knows her identity, to please get in touch with us at the earliest opportunity."

Victim's Background

Mr Deputat, a Polish national, was believed to have been living off-grid on the common and was known among Southampton's homeless community. His family described him as a "modest, but dream-filled brother and son" whose humour and warmth made every meeting memorable. They said: "Ernest, you were a modest, but dream-filled brother and son. Every meeting with you was unforgettable. Your smile, accompanying humour and the lightness, with which you conducted the conversation, made people want to be with you."
