Officer's tribute after family dies in Boxing Day fire

A police officer has issued a devastating tribute to his wife and two young children, who lost their lives in a tragic house fire on Boxing Day near Stroud.

A Family's Unimaginable Loss

Tom Shearman, a serving police officer, attempted a desperate rescue as fire engulfed the family home in Brimscombe, Gloucestershire. He was overwhelmed by the blaze and later treated for injuries sustained in his brave efforts.

His wife, Fionnghuala, who was known affectionately as Nu, and their two children, seven-year-old Eve and four-year-old Ohner, all died in the incident. The fire is understood to have started on the ground floor of the property.

Heartfelt Tribute to 'Greatest Humans'

In a moving statement released through Gloucestershire Constabulary, Mr Shearman described his profound grief and love for his family. He called them "three of the greatest humans to ever grace our presence".

He also expressed his deep gratitude for the overwhelming wave of public support and sympathy that has followed the tragedy, which has provided a small measure of comfort during an unbearable time.

Community Support and Ongoing Investigation

In a remarkable display of community solidarity, a GoFundMe appeal set up to support Mr Shearman has raised more than £300,000 since the fire occurred on 26 December.

Investigations by the fire service and police into the exact cause of the blaze are continuing. Authorities have stated that the fire is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

The local community in Brimscombe and the wider Gloucestershire area continue to mourn the loss, leaving flowers and messages of condolence near the scene of the tragedy.
