Oklahoma Lake Party Shooting Leaves One Dead, 22 Injured
Oklahoma Lake Party Shooting: 1 Dead, 22 Injured

A violent altercation at a weekend gathering in an Oklahoma park escalated into a shooting, resulting in one fatality and at least 22 individuals sustaining gunshot or shrapnel wounds, police confirmed on Tuesday.

Incident Details

The shooting occurred on Sunday night at a picnic pavilion near Arcadia Lake, a well-known recreational spot north of Oklahoma City. According to Edmond police spokesperson Sgt. James Hamm, authorities have not made any arrests but believe there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The event was promoted via social media and attracted a large crowd, predominantly composed of young adults. Police were already en route to address a noise complaint about the party when the shooting commenced.

Victims and Injuries

An 18-year-old female who was injured in the shooting succumbed to her injuries just before 6 p.m. Tuesday. She had been listed in critical condition prior to her death. Another individual remains in critical condition, while many others suffered graze wounds and have been treated and released. It is possible that additional victims did not seek medical attention, Hamm noted.

According to Hamm, many of those shot were not involved in the initial altercation and were simply attending the party. The conflict began when a fight broke out among multiple groups at the gathering.

Investigation Status

Police have declined to release information about potential suspects, the number of shooters, or the types of weapons used. Hamm stated that the department aims to preserve the integrity of the investigation.

Edmond Mayor Mark Nash revealed on Monday that the shooting took place at a public park where spaces can be reserved for large events, but no reservation had been made for the party.

Jeremiah Braxton, a party attendee, recounted that two of his friends were among those shot. He described the atmosphere as festive—with eating, dancing, and enjoyment—until a group of girls began arguing over boyfriends. "It just started a whole bunch of chaos," he said.
