A major murder investigation is underway at Tamworth railway station in Staffordshire after the body of a 28-year-old man was discovered in the station's car park during the early hours of Sunday, March 8, 2026. The grim discovery has led to the complete closure of the station, causing significant disruption to rail services across multiple operators.
Police Investigation and Arrest
British Transport Police have confirmed they are treating the death as suspicious and have launched a full-scale murder investigation. A 28-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody as inquiries continue. Forensic teams have established a cordon around the car park area and are conducting a detailed examination of the scene for evidence.
Major Rail Disruption Across Multiple Routes
The station closure has created widespread travel chaos affecting thousands of passengers. National Rail has confirmed that trains are unable to call at Tamworth station, with disruption expected to continue until at least 2.30pm. Both the High Level and Low Level platforms are affected by the closure.
CrossCountry trains issued an alert stating: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident at Tamworth. Services running through this station will be cancelled or diverted. Tamworth will not be served."
The disruption affects multiple key routes including:
- Avanti West Coast services between London Euston and Manchester Piccadilly/Liverpool Lime Street

Detective Inspector Marvin Bruno of the British Transport Police stated: "Our specialist family liaison officers are providing support to the victim's family and our thoughts remain with them at this time. We are urging anyone with any information or anyone who witnessed events leading up to the man's death to get in touch with us."
Passengers have been advised to check their journeys before traveling and to use rail replacement services provided by Stagecoach where possible. The British Transport Police have confirmed that a scene guard remains in place while forensic examinations continue.
