Texas Man, 21, Accused of Murdering Grandmother in Allowance Dispute
A 21-year-old Texas man stands accused of fatally shooting his grandmother following a violent argument over his allowance money, according to authorities in Arlington. Rontrell Jackson was arrested last Friday and formally charged with one count of murder, as detailed in an official news release from the Arlington Police Department.
Police investigators state that the tragic incident originated from a heated dispute concerning Jackson's allowance funds. While the precise amount of money involved remains undisclosed, the confrontation escalated dramatically, resulting in the alleged shooting of his 68-year-old grandmother.
Gruesome Details of the Crime Scene
Officers from the Arlington Police Department responded to a distress call at approximately 4:40 p.m. on Friday, arriving at an apartment complex located in the 1800 block of Carriage House Circle. A family member had reported discovering the elderly woman unresponsive and covered with a blanket on the outdoor patio adjacent to her apartment unit.
During subsequent questioning by law enforcement, Jackson reportedly confessed to the killing. He admitted to shooting his grandmother inside the residence and then dragging her lifeless body outside to the patio in a deliberate attempt to conceal the horrific crime. Authorities confirmed that a firearm, believed to be the murder weapon, was successfully recovered from inside the apartment.
Neighbors Express Shock and Disbelief
Neighbors residing in the apartment directly below the victim, Jerry and Keiarra Dennis, shared their profound shock and difficulty in processing the violent event with local news outlet WFAA. "For someone to have lost their life over an allowance, over a disagreement, that's the part where it's hard to process," Keiarra Dennis stated emotionally.
She added, "All I can do in this moment and want to do in this moment is just pray for their family." Keiarra Dennis noted that she was at home on the day of the killing but did not hear any commotion or disturbance. However, she recalled observing an unusually high number of flies on her patio, a detail that later gained grim significance.
"For this to be this close to you," Jerry Dennis remarked, "it's very hard to process, even in words." The couple expressed their collective struggle to comprehend the brutality occurring so near to their own home.
