Newly released footage has captured the moment a UPS cargo plane lost its engine just seconds after takeoff in Louisville, Kentucky, leading to a devastating crash. The incident, involving UPS Flight 2976, occurred on 4 November, 2025, when the aircraft crashed into local businesses shortly after departing from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport.
Fatal Crash Details
The crash resulted in the deaths of all three pilots on board and 12 individuals on the ground. A further 23 people sustained injuries in the accident, which destroyed several commercial properties near the airport. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released the video during a two-day investigative hearing held in Washington, D.C., to examine the causes of the deadly aviation accident.
Footage Shows Engine Separation
The video clearly depicts the engine and pylon completely separating from the wing of the aircraft moments after takeoff. The NTSB presented the footage as part of their ongoing investigation into the mechanical failure that led to the crash. Investigators are focusing on the structural integrity of the engine mounting system and maintenance records as they work to determine the root cause of the separation.
The release of the footage has intensified scrutiny on cargo aircraft safety protocols and maintenance practices. UPS has stated that it is cooperating fully with the NTSB investigation and has implemented additional safety checks on its fleet. The hearing in Washington is expected to continue examining evidence and witness testimony to prevent similar incidents in the future.
