A 29-year-old woman has been charged with murder following a fatal house fire in Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs last month. The incident, which also led to a charge of attempted murder, occurred in the early hours of the morning in Clyde North.
Emergency Response to Sunburnt Circuit
Emergency services were called to a property on Sunburnt Circuit in Clyde North at approximately 1:45 am on 18 December. The location is roughly 46km south-east of Melbourne's CBD. Reports indicated a fire was burning and that people had been injured at the scene.
Upon arrival, crews discovered a serious situation. Two men, aged 46 and 44, were rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Tragically, the 44-year-old man succumbed to his injuries later that same day. A woman was also hospitalised, but her injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.
Charges Laid Following Investigation
In a statement issued on Friday, Victoria Police confirmed the major development in the case. The 29-year-old woman, who had been under police guard in hospital, was formally charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.
Authorities have indicated that the parties involved in the incident were known to each other. The woman has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court.
Other Occupants Unharmed
Police confirmed that two other individuals were inside the property at the time of the fire. A 43-year-old woman and an 11-year-old girl were not physically injured during the harrowing event.
Meanwhile, the 46-year-old man remains in hospital, where his condition is now described as stable. The investigation into the precise circumstances surrounding the fire is ongoing.
