Bradley Belhomme, a 20-year-old from Salford, Greater Manchester, is fighting for his life after a catastrophic quad bike crash on a lads' holiday in Zante, Greece. The incident occurred on Friday, July 3, when he collided with a coach while riding a rented quad bike with a friend. The friend was also hospitalized but has since been discharged.
Family's Desperate Plea for Help
Bradley's mother, Leanne Rabbetts, spoke of her anguish: 'He went on the holiday on Thursday and everything was fine. I spoke to him when he arrived, but then on the Friday afternoon I got the call saying there had been a crash.' She flew out to Greece on Sunday and has been at his bedside daily, but can only visit for half an hour at a time due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Bradley is in intensive care in a coma at a hospital in Attica, Athens. Doctors attempted to bring him out of the coma but he did not respond and suffered two seizures. An MRI scan is needed to assess brain damage, but he remains unresponsive.
Uncertainty Over Insurance and Support
The family believes Bradley had travel insurance but cannot access his phone to confirm details. They have contacted the British Embassy for support. His uncle, Adam, said: 'We can't do anything. We are just waiting for the scan and trying to make sure everything is covered at the moment, because if the insurance is invalid it's a big bill.'
Friends and the local community in Salford have organized fundraising events and walks to help cover hospital costs. Adam added: 'The local community and friends have all donated and have been brilliant. Bradley is a loveable lad who has gone away to have a lads' holiday and enjoy himself.'
Ongoing Questions and Language Barriers
The family is struggling with a lack of answers and language barriers in Greece. 'It's all questions and no answers at the moment. And out here there's a huge language barrier,' Adam said. 'We are like a fish out of water.' Bradley remains in intensive care, and his family is focused on his recovery and eventual return home.
