Gateshead rapist jailed for 10 years after victim washed with Dettol
Rapist jailed 10 years, victim washed with Dettol

A man from Gateshead has been sentenced to ten years in prison for a brutal double rape, which left his victim feeling so violated she washed herself with Dettol in a desperate attempt to feel clean.

Horrific Attack and Desperate Pleas

David Wilson, 49, of Garth Farm Road, Winlaton, Gateshead, was found guilty of two counts of rape by a jury at Newcastle Crown Court. The court heard how he ignored the woman's clear and desperate pleas for him to stop during the attack on January 9, 2026.

Recorder Mark Giuliani, presiding over the case, stated that Wilson had decided his own "desires and needs were more important than her wishes." The judge recounted how the victim was "saying 'no, don't, stop'" but was ignored as Wilson sought to satisfy his "own carnal desire."

Chilling Impact on the Survivor

The court was presented with a victim impact statement described by Recorder Giuliani as "chilling" to read. In it, the woman detailed the profound trauma inflicted by the assault.

She expressed feeling "so dirty she couldn't even touch her own skin" in the aftermath. This overwhelming sense of defilement led her to take the extreme step of washing with Dettol antiseptic in a bid to regain a sense of cleanliness and control.

"She describes she was subjected to a violent sexual assault by you which has left her traumatised, scared and has greatly affected her life," the Recorder told Wilson during sentencing. "Afterwards she felt ashamed and dirty, at one point washing herself with Dettol to feel clean again."

Sentencing and Criminal History

Handing down the ten-year prison sentence, the judge emphasised the severity of the crimes and their lasting impact on the survivor. The court was also informed that Wilson has a previous history of violence, adding context to his character.

Wilson had denied both charges of rape, forcing the victim to endure a trial. However, the jury saw through his denials and returned guilty verdicts on both counts.

This case highlights the severe psychological trauma experienced by survivors of sexual violence and the long journey towards recovery they face following such a profound violation.
