UK Issues Travel Warning for Dubai and UAE Over Terrorist Attack Threat

The UK Foreign Office has updated its travel advice for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), warning that terrorist attacks are 'very likely' in the country. The alert, issued this week, urges British holidaymakers to remain vigilant, particularly in crowded places frequented by foreigners.

According to the Foreign Office, attacks could target restaurants, hotels, beaches, shopping centres, and public events. The advisory notes that terrorists continue to issue statements threatening attacks in the Gulf region, including on Western interests such as residential compounds, military, oil, transport, and aviation facilities.

Over 1.5 million British visitors travel to the UAE annually, with more than 100,000 British nationals residing there. While most visits are trouble-free, the Foreign Office advises taking sensible precautions to protect personal safety and belongings.

Female travellers are urged to use reputable taxi companies, especially at night. In Dubai, authorised taxis are cream-coloured with coloured roofs; pink-roofed taxis have female drivers. The Foreign Office also highlights that UAE laws and customs differ significantly from those in the UK, and serious penalties can apply for breaches.
