First-Time Buyer Discovers Secret Door to Hidden Flat
Secret Door Reveals Hidden Flat for First-Time Buyer

A first-time buyer in Liverpool was left speechless after discovering a secret door in her new flat that led to an enormous hidden room, almost doubling the size of her home. Phoebe Irving, 26, a photographer, purchased a four-bedroom flat for £105,000 in April 2026. During her initial viewing, she noticed a locked door in the corridor, but the estate agents dismissed it as "just storage."

Unexpected Discovery

On moving day, Phoebe opened the door and found a vast space equivalent to three double bedrooms. The hidden room has effectively doubled the size of her flat. Phoebe said: "My flat is four bedrooms, which is already a ridiculous size for just me. When I went for my first viewing, there was a room that was locked. The estate agent said it was just for storage. I asked if they could bring the keys for it to my next viewing, but they forgot. I assumed due to the price of the flat, it wouldn’t be anything."

Overwhelming Surprise

She added: "On the day I moved in, I opened the door and there was a huge room inside it. I was so shocked, it was a lot bigger than a cupboard. It’s basically like a whole other flat, I was so overwhelmed, as I now have double the amount of space, and I don’t even have the budget to do up the rest of the flat, never mind this!"

Renovation Plans

Phoebe saved for two years using a Lifetime ISA to afford her first home, securing it with a £10,000 deposit. She is currently renovating the flat with a £5,000 budget, including installing a new bathroom. She hopes to convert the hidden space into a cinema room or dressing room. The room was not included in the survey or floor plan, adding to the surprise.
