Shirtless Dancer on Jeep Roof Before Texas Highway Crash

A shocking incident unfolded on a Texas highway when a shirtless man was filmed dancing on the roof of a moving Jeep just moments before it crashed into another vehicle. The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that the crash occurred on State Highway 361 in the Gulf Coast town of Port Aransas on Saturday, involving a 2012 Jeep Wrangler.

Dangerous Antics Before Impact

Video circulating on social media captured the extraordinary scene of a shirtless man climbing out of the Jeep's roof and twerking as the vehicle traveled down the highway. This reckless behavior preceded a collision that ejected a 22-year-old male passenger onto the roadway. Another individual involved in the crash was hospitalized with a serious head injury, highlighting the severe consequences of the incident.

Driver Faces Serious Charges

The Jeep driver, identified as 24-year-old Riley Rhoades, was arrested after breath tests revealed blood alcohol content levels of .14 and .12, significantly above Texas's legal limit of .08. Court documents obtained by KIII 3 News show Rhoades has been charged with one count of intoxication assault and is being held in the Nueces County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

Footage from the crash scene depicted three young people in swimsuits standing beside the shattered Jeep while emergency medical services attended to an injured person on the road. The visual evidence underscores the chaotic aftermath of the preventable collision.

Spring Break Safety Concerns in Port Aransas

Port Aransas Mayor Wendy Moore addressed the broader context of spring break safety, noting that while the seasonal influx of visitors is a major economic driver for the coastal community, it brings significant challenges. "We do have a very large first responder presence, and they do a lot of training; we bring people in from around the state to help support us to manage the crowds," Moore explained to local news.

However, the mayor emphasized that many safety issues during this period are caused by visitors rather than residents. "We want those residents and visitors alike to know that we work really hard to keep these things isolated and keep them safe, and I hope they will be equally diligent about where they are in their surroundings," Moore stated, urging personal responsibility.

Increased Enforcement Measures

Port Aransas Police Lieutenant Mike Hannon detailed the enhanced security measures implemented during spring break, including additional support from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and Department of Public Safety troopers. "What the community does not want here, what we are looking for, is bad conduct, unsafe conduct, people that are driving in an unsafe way, conducting themselves in an unsafe way," Hannon asserted.

He further explained, "We've done that with a much higher level of enforcement, citations, and arrests, we're hoping to deter that, and have people who want to come here for that purpose, not come here." Officials report that so far this spring break season, they have made 15 arrests for drinking while intoxicated, reflecting the intensified crackdown on dangerous behavior.

Separate Beach Shooting Incident

In a related development on the same Saturday, Port Aransas experienced another violent episode when five people suffered gunshot wounds following an altercation between two groups on the beach. A 17-year-old, identified as Ernesto Castillo, was arrested for the shooting. Police stated that the incident stemmed from a confrontation between two groups, with Castillo allegedly firing multiple rounds while driving away. All victims are reported to be in stable condition, adding to the community's spring break safety concerns.

The combination of the highway crash and beach shooting highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Port Aransas authorities during the busy spring break period, as they balance economic benefits with public safety imperatives.
