A dedicated nurse from Townsville is facing unimaginable grief after losing both of her young daughters in a devastating house fire that erupted early Sunday morning. The tragedy unfolded at a residential property on Gum Court in the coastal suburb of Bushland Beach, leaving a family shattered and a community in mourning.
Fatal Blaze Claims Lives of Two Sisters
The two girls, identified by their family as two-year-old Hallie and thirteen-year-old Evie, succumbed to their injuries on Thursday after being rescued from the inferno. Emergency services were alerted to the fully engulfed home at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, with fire crews rushing to the scene.
Two teenage boys managed to escape the burning property unaided. Firefighters, however, performed a brave rescue operation to extract the two sisters from the intense flames. Both girls were transported in critical condition to Townsville University Hospital, where their mother, Karah, is employed as a nurse.
Despite receiving urgent medical care at the hospital, the sisters, who suffered severe respiratory difficulties from smoke inhalation, tragically passed away several days later. A family spokesperson conveyed that Karah's life has been irrevocably altered, stating her world has been turned upside down by the loss.

In a heartfelt message on a GoFundMe page established to support the family, relatives expressed their profound devastation. 'Our family is devastated by what has happened, and we are still trying to come to terms with the scale of this tragedy,' the statement read. It further highlighted the cruel irony facing Karah: 'While Karah has spent her career caring for others, she is now facing the unimaginable - fighting for her children's lives while having lost the place they once called home.'
Prior to the girls' passing, the family shared an update thanking the community, hospital staff, and emergency services for their overwhelming support. 'Our beautiful girls, Evie (13) and Hallie (2), remain in a critical condition. While they are receiving the very best care, their prognosis remains poor, and our family is taking things one moment at a time,' they wrote.
The fundraising campaign has demonstrated remarkable community solidarity, having raised over $80,000 of its $90,000 target as of Friday morning. This financial support aims to assist the family with immediate needs and recovery efforts following the catastrophic fire.
Queensland Police have confirmed that the blaze is being treated as non-suspicious at this stage, though formal investigations remain ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with potentially relevant information about the incident to come forward to assist with the inquiry.
