Inquest Details Tragic Death of 'Cherished' Teenager After Halloween Night Out
A cherished teenager tragically passed away in hospital days after being discovered unresponsive following a Halloween night out in north Wales, as detailed in a recent inquest hearing. Cadi Sue Mair Parry, aged 19, was described by her mother as a friendly and kind person who touched the souls of everyone she met, highlighting the profound loss felt by her family and community.
Events Leading to the Tragedy
The inquest heard that Cadi, from Menai Bridge, had become visibly upset during the night out in Bangor after being approached by a girl who claimed to have been with Cadi's partner the week prior. Her mother, Heidi Parry, stated that everyone knew their relationship was toxic, but she had not realized how deeply it affected her daughter. Cadi worked as a housekeeper at Henllys Hall in Beaumaris and had a strong appreciation for fashion and beauty, with plans to travel to Dubai to support her brother Luke at a boxing event.
Darren Evans-Tomlinson, whose son Evan was in a relationship with Cadi, provided a statement recounting the night's events. He received a call to give Cadi a lift back to his family's home, where he found her crying and expressing distress over her partner's actions. After calming her down, he left her at the house while he went out briefly to collect his daughter, a journey totaling eight minutes. Upon returning, his wife discovered Cadi unresponsive upstairs, prompting an immediate 999 call.
Medical Response and Hospitalisation
Paramedic Matthew Price noted that the ambulance arrived at the house at 4:12 am on November 1, approximately six minutes after the emergency call was made. Cadi was swiftly transported to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, arriving at 4:54 am. Dr Emyr Hughes, a consultant anaesthetist, reported that she had sustained a significant brain injury. Her condition deteriorated over the following days, leading to the decision on November 4 to withdraw life support treatment and focus on comfort care. Cadi was pronounced dead at 3:41 pm on the same day.
Coroner's Findings and Conclusion
Pathologist Dr Mark Atkinson conducted a post-mortem examination, revealing an alcohol level equivalent to being below the drink-driving limit. Assistant coroner Sarah Riley for north-west Wales determined the medical cause of death as hypoxic brain injury due to self-suspension. She emphasized that Cadi had received distressing news about her boyfriend and was visibly upset, with her judgment potentially impaired by alcohol and cocaine, though recent use was not evident.
Riley concluded that there was insufficient evidence to support an intention to end her life, stating, I therefore conclude that the death was an unintended consequence of a deliberate act. She recorded the death as misadventure, noting that Cadi did not intend to die from her actions. The inquest highlighted the tragic circumstances, underscoring the impact of emotional distress and substance impairment on young individuals.
