An 86-year-old Oklahoma woman died after being attacked by a dog she was caring for on behalf of her incarcerated son, police said.
Incident Details
Officers responded to a call at around 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, in the area of NE 27th Street and Highland Drive near Moore, Oklahoma. Upon arrival, they found Beatrice Carruth suffering from serious injuries. Officers applied tourniquets to stem bleeding until paramedics arrived, but Carruth was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died.
Moore Animal Control removed the dog from the home and later euthanized it on July 6, 2026. According to Moore Animal Control, the dog was identified as a Labrador retriever crossbred with an American pit bull terrier, based on observed physical characteristics. The dog had been quarantined at the shelter until its euthanasia.
Background: Son's Arrest and Prior Incident
Court records show that Carruth's son, Jason Clay Ingram, was arrested on May 11 for allegedly strangling his mother and severing telephone cables at her property as she tried to call 911. Relatives said that several days after that incident, the same dog attacked Carruth, leading to her hospitalization for multiple days. Family members urged Ingram to have the dog put down at the time, but he insisted his mother continue caring for the animal.
Family Seeks Further Charges
Carruth's family hopes Ingram will face additional charges, maintaining that Carruth was coerced into keeping the dangerous dog. The Moore Police Department extended its thoughts and condolences to everyone impacted by the tragic incident.
