Beloved Bar Owner and Mother Murdered in Execution-Style Illinois Shooting

A cherished business owner and devoted mother was murdered in what authorities describe as an execution-style killing at her own bar in Illinois, after complying with a robber's demand for cash.

Tragic Morning at The Line Bar

Courtney Drysdale, aged 30, was shot dead on Monday morning at approximately 11 am while she was alone inside her establishment, The Line, located in Momence, Illinois. Investigators report that Drysdale was in the process of opening the bar for the day when the suspected assailant, Julius E Burkes Jr, aged 47, allegedly forced his way inside and demanded money from the cash register.

According to Kankakee County Sheriff Mike Downey, who addressed the media during a Tuesday press conference, the terrified victim complied with the demands. Despite her cooperation, the gunman proceeded to fatally shoot her twice before fleeing the scene. Sheriff Downey noted that Burkes allegedly attempted to remove a surveillance camera within the bar before making his escape.

Community Devastation and Swift Police Action

"Courtney was deeply loved, not only by her family and her young daughter, but also by the many patrons and friends whose lives she touched," Sheriff Downey stated, as reported by NBC. "This senseless act of violence has profoundly impacted our community and we are fully committed to bringing the person responsible to justice."

In the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, the sheriff's office released surveillance images depicting a suspect wearing sunglasses, who was then at large. A public statement warned that the individual was seen leaving The Line with a firearm and should be considered armed and dangerous. Authorities also disseminated an image of a white BMW connected to the person of interest and offered a $5,000 cash reward for information leading to his identification.

Arrest and Ongoing Legal Proceedings

Julius E Burkes Jr was apprehended later that same day while leaving his residence in Hammond, Indiana. "This type of violent behavior has no place in our society," Sheriff Downey emphasized in a subsequent written statement. Burkes is currently being held in Indiana as he awaits extradition to Illinois to face charges related to the heinous crime.

"We hope that in some way the apprehension of this monster will bring some sort of peace to Courtney’s family, friends and community," the sheriff's office expressed in a poignant message.
