A large fire in Cheetham Hill, Manchester, prompted a major response from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service overnight, with 10 fire engines deployed to the scene on Broughton Street. The blaze involved several single-storey commercial buildings, sending huge plumes of smoke into the sky.
Fire Crews Respond to Blaze Near Manchester Fort
The fire broke out on Friday night, and crews remained at the scene on Saturday morning. A clean-up operation was underway near Manchester Fort shopping centre, with road closures still in place on Broughton Street and Bent Street. Residents in the surrounding area were told to keep windows and doors shut due to smoke.
Video footage captured at the height of the blaze showed a raging fire and thick black smoke rising above the buildings. Firefighters used two hose reel jets, one hand-held jet, and an aerial appliance to bring the fire under control.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: 'Firefighters arrived quickly and used two hose reel jets, one hand-held jet and an aerial appliance to bring the fire under control. Nearby residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed if there is visible smoke in their area.'
The service also warned of the possibility of 'low-lying smoke passing north in the Cheetham Hill area'. Road closures remain in effect, and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
No injuries have been reported, and investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
