A fugitive murder suspect wanted for the killing of a teenage girl in Texas has himself been found shot to death inside a vehicle, according to local police.
Fugitive Discovered in Early Morning Shooting
Deshawn Suggs, 18, was discovered by police inside a car in San Antonio around 4am on Saturday. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle and a neighbouring house were found peppered with bullet holes after officers responded to reports of an active shooter in the area.
On Sunday, the medical examiner officially ruled Suggs's death a homicide. The Bexar County Sheriff's Office confirmed the suspect was deceased and his wanted status had been rescinded.
Background to a Teenage Tragedy
Suggs had been evading law enforcement since September 28, 2025, following the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Alianna Ujueta. The tragedy occurred as teenagers attempted to leave a party at an abandoned house in Bexar County, an event authorities described as a 'teen takeover' that turned violent.
In November, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office named Suggs as the sole suspect in Ujueta's murder. Sheriff Javier Salazar stated that evidence pointed to Suggs as the alleged trigger-man. Although a weapon believed to have been used in Ujueta's killing was recovered, it was not found with Suggs at the time of his death. An arrest warrant had been issued for him.
Following the discovery of Suggs's body, investigators are now working to determine the circumstances that led to his fatal shooting. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been named in connection with his death.
A Family's Grief and a Life Cut Short
The death of Alianna Ujueta devastated her family, who remembered her as a vibrant and loving young woman. Her older sister, Analiese Habe, told local media KSAT, "We're missing her. It's really hard. We're missing the piece that made us whole."
Her family shared that Alianna had graduated high school early, held a job, and was looking forward to getting her driver's licence. Her brother Kevin said, "She would want to be remembered by the love that she had for her family."
In a poignant television interview with Kens5, her father Ivan Ujueta recounted the moment they learned of the shooting. "We were praying that it wasn't our girl. Our day became dark, and there was no light at the end. This has broken us. This has torn us apart," he said.
Her mother, Terri, described Alianna as funny, sassy, and full of life, noting "She didn't go anywhere without making a friend." In a social media tribute, she wrote of her daughter's "signature smile," calling it "a physical manifestation of the boundless joy and light she brought into every life she touched."
In the aftermath of the 2025 party, which left beer bottles and glow sticks littering the lawn of the abandoned property, Sheriff Garcia urged parents to be more aware of their children's activities. He highlighted the dangers of "teen-adult parties at these random properties, these abandoned properties, that ultimately lead to gun violence."
