A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a three-year-old girl was found dead at a property in Chertsey, Surrey. Police were called to an address on Pyrcroft Road at around 5:40pm on 25 June following concerns for the welfare of a young girl. Upon arrival, officers discovered the child had died.
Arrest and Hospitalisation
The man, who was found at the scene with a serious injury, was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was taken to hospital for treatment and will be taken into custody once medically cleared, according to a Surrey Police spokesperson.
Police Investigation
A murder investigation has been launched by Surrey Police's Major Crime Team. The force spokesperson said: "At this stage our enquiries lead us to believe that this took place within a family setting and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident."
The Senior Investigating Officer added: "This is a tragic incident, and our officers are working hard to build a picture of what happened. We have made an arrest in connection with this incident and at this stage, we are not looking to identify anyone else in connection with our investigation. We have no reason to believe there is any risk to the public."
