Man seriously injured in violent attack on East Kilbride footpath

A 42-year-old man has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a "violent attack" in East Kilbride. The incident unfolded around 7.30pm on Wednesday on the footpath at The Murray Road, near its junction with Westwood Hill.

Victim walking when attacked

The victim was out walking when two men approached him and assaulted him. He was taken to Hairmyres Hospital where he was treated for serious injuries. Emergency services, including Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service, were called to the scene.

Suspects still at large

The suspects are still at large and officers have launched an investigation to track them down. The first suspect is described as a white male, 5ft 10 in height, of slim build and wearing a black tammy hat and a blue/grey jumper. The second suspect is described as a white male, 5ft 8 in height, of slim build and wearing a blue/grey hat and a light blue top.

Police appeal for information

Detective Constable Ross Burgess said: “This was a violent attack which left the victim with serious injuries and it is vital we trace the individuals responsible. We are appealing to anyone who may have seen two men around The Murray Road or Westwood Hill area on Wednesday evening to please come forward. In particular, we would like to hear from anyone with private CCTV or dash-cam footage which could be of significance to this investigation.”

Cops have been trawling through CCTV footage from in and around the area for more information on those behind the attack. Anyone with any more details on what happened is being urged to come forward.
