Manuel Alejandro Moreno Serna, 39, known as Alex Serna, a journalist and environmental activist from Guerrero, Mexico, was found dead on June 22, 2026, after disappearing on June 20. On the day he vanished, Serna shared a video accusing a foreign mango company of extracting water without a license in Guerrero. He had previously received chilling death threats on social media, including messages like "cut the crap" and "we’ve got you in our sights, you better back off." Another message stated, "We’re not playing around, we already have your location and everything."

The Human Rights Commission of the State of Guerrero (CDHEG) confirmed his death on Saturday, June 27, after his family identified the remains. CDHEG urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation. Serna's death has sparked massive local outrage, with activists, journalists, and residents planning demonstrations outside Zihuatanejo City Hall under slogans "No to disappearances!" and "No to silence!"

A friend of Serna posted an urgent appeal on social media, calling on President Claudia Sheinbaum to pay attention to the situation in Guerrero, stating, "Independent communicators whose only aim is to promote the truth are starting to be kidnapped."
