Attack During Photoshoot
Wang Ching-wen, known professionally as Wenwen, a 28-year-old cheerleader for the CTBC Brothers baseball team, was stabbed in the neck by a 52-year-old male fan during a private modelling event at a photography studio in Taipei on 20 June. The suspect, identified only by his surname Hsu, allegedly premeditated the attack and used a hidden fruit knife.
Wang sustained a 5cm laceration to her throat. Several photographers who intervened sustained minor cuts. Hsu had signed up for the event over a month earlier, despite having been blocked by Wang due to persistent harassment.
Emergency Surgery and Recovery
Wang underwent emergency surgery at Mackay Memorial Hospital and is in stable condition with no life-threatening injuries. In a social media statement, she confirmed the surgery was successful and thanked the CTBC Brothers, her agency Dorian International Entertainment, the photography team, and bystanders who intervened.
She has provided police statements and is focusing on rest and recovery, asking for privacy.
Joint Statement and Security Measures
The CTBC Brothers and Dorian International Entertainment issued a joint statement denouncing the violence and confirming Wang was not in immediate danger. They have increased security at home games and prohibited cheerleaders from attending private events unaccompanied.
Suspect Details
Police described Hsu as an unemployed obsessive fan who depends on monthly payments of £477 to £715 (TWD 20,000-30,000) from his retired father to finance his pursuit of cheerleading events and merchandise. He had been banned from similar activities since September of the previous year.
The court sanctioned his pre-trial detention on suspicion of attempted murder and assault, citing compelling evidence and risk of reoffending.
